NANETS Abstract Poster Criteria

2010
Neuroendocrine Tumor Symposium

“Developing New Approaches In NET Disease Management”
Santa Fe, New Mexico

October 29 & 30, 2010

NANETS goal is to provide a platform highlighting neuroendocrine tumor research. Abstracts reporting recent neuroendocrine tumor research results are encouraged. We also encourage abstracts describing ongoing or current clinical trials, with the intent of increasing awareness of these studies. Investigators may submit abstracts that have been presented at other scientific meetings.

Abstract Poster Presentation Goals

  • Present emerging and novel approaches to carcinoid / NET disease research and treatment
  • Facilitate interactive exchange of conference attendees and researchers
  • Encourage junior faculty, fellows in training and postdoctoral participation
  • Increase interest among physicians, investigators and institutions to pursue both clinical and basic research in the field of NETs
  • Foster interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration within the medical and scientific communities

Qualifying Criteria
The main factors considered by the Poster Review committee in qualifying abstracts for acceptance are:

  • Quality of the research
  • Importance / significance of the topic to the conference
  • Content of the abstract
  • Adherence to submission criteria

Abstracts may be rejected by the reviewers for the following reasons:

  • No Hypothesis - The abstract does not clearly indicate the reason for conducting the research and the question being tested by the experiments performed.
  • Inadequate Experimental Methods - The investigators failed to describe procedures used or neglected to include important or essential controls.
  • Insufficient Data Presented - The investigators failed to show the outcome(s) of their research.
  • Insufficient data presented to support the authors' conclusion(s).
  • No Summary Form of Essential Results - The investigators failed to concisely summarize the result(s) of their research.
  • No Conclusion - The investigators failed to describe the conclusions of their research with regard to the hypothesis being tested.
  • Poorly written - Improper use of the English language renders the abstract incomprehensible.

Travel Grant Eligibility Criteria
There will be up to 10 travel grants awarded to the top abstracts. Following are
individuals who may be considered for the grant:

  • Fellows

  • Junior Faculty ( 3 years or less in initial faculty appointment )

Young Investigator Award Criteria
As part of the continuing medical education program, two sessions have been dedicated to the
presentation of selected oral abstracts
. There will be up to six abstracts chosen. The main factors
considered by the Poster Review committee in qualifying abstracts for oral presentations and the
top awards (one for basic research and one for clinical research) are:

  • Significance of the research
  • Data adequately supports the conclusion
  • Quality and clarity of the abstract content
  • Organization and aesthetic appeal of the poster
  • Ability of investigator to verbally summarize, elucidate and discuss methods and findings
  • Overall medical impact on diagnosis/treatment of NET diseases
  • Influence or contribution to NET research community and future investigations

Abstract Submission Process

  • Submitted abstracts will not be edited for content in any way. Thus, typographic and grammatical errors that appear in the submission will still appear in the printed abstract at the conference.
  • You may not submit an abstract on behalf of someone else if you are not listed as one of the authors.
  • If you are requesting to be considered for a travel grant, you must be the submitter of the abstract and present the abstract at the conference if selected.
  • You are required to obtain the approval of all co-authors before placing their names on the abstract. Failure to do so will result in the immediate rejection of the abstract.
  • You should be prepared to discuss essential details of your methods and results.
  • If you and your team are submitting several abstracts for consideration, be certain that each abstract will stand on its own. Be sure to resolve all questions dealing with internal company or sponsor reviews as well as patent issues prior to submission.
  • Abstracts must be received by the deadline of September 20, 2010 ( 11:59 pm PST) in Word format. Photocopies or facsimile copies will not be accepted and will be discarded.
