NANETS Education and Research Fund supports NET medical education and scientific research for medical professionals in all phases of careers. Every day, the NET researchers, physicians and other medical professionals integral to the NET community, work to raise awareness, advance research and educate medical professionals from all disciplines about neuroendocrine tumor diagnosis, treatment, long-term care and global resources.
Since its inception, NANETS resources have been dedicated to education and research. Our 400+ members represent some of the world’s most widely recognized and respected NET physicians, surgeons, allied healthcare providers and researchers, all working toward the same goal: to improve treatment outcomes and care for patients living with NETs. NANETS fulfills its mission of expanding awareness, providing education and funding research in three key ways:
• NET Research Awards - To date, NANETS has provided nearly $2 million in funding for 18 researchers, whose ground-breaking work has been pivotal in advancing the understanding and treatment of NETs.
• NET Medical Education - Over 1,000 medical professionals attend NANETS certified medical education conferences yearly. The comprehensive one-day regional NET education programs are offered in conjunction with local cancer centers to provide multidisciplinary training to medical professionals across North America. Local physicians and allied healthcare providers come together with leaders in neuroendocrine medicine to educate and discuss NET disease and patient care in the community. Participants learn about standard management of patients with neuroendocrine tumors, as well as new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
• Consensus Guidelines - NANETS has also published several guidelines, developed pursuant to National Institute of Health standards, which serve as important resources for practicing physicians. Since 2010, NANETS has published five guidelines focusing on key topics related to the diagnosis, management and treatment of NETs. In 2019 NANETS guidelines projects include: PNETs; PRRT I & II, which include procedural and indication guidelines; high-grade NET; and pheochromocytoma and paranganglioma.
But, there is more work to be done.
Because of the relative rarity of NETs, raising funds through pharma and foundation support can be challenging. For this reason, NANETS has created its Education and Research Fund. To find out how you can support the valuable work done every day by NANETS members, click here.
