 Janice Pasieka

Janice Pasieka, MD
Surgical Oncology
University of Calgar
Bio
Candidate Statement

“I am honoured that my name has been put forward to serve as a Director on NaNETs board. As an endocrine surgeon I have devoted my entire career to the surgical treatment of endocrine surgical diseases.
This interest in these unique and often orphaned tumours, led me down a path of developing surgical expertise, and a research agenda in what was initially considered a rare disease. I have spent the last few decades caring for, studying and treating patients with these diverse and unique tumours. I therefore feel I have the clinical expertise to help the Board with the development of its educational and clinical agenda for the next generation of neuroendocrine experts. I feel I add diversity to the existing board as a surgeon in this field and bring with me experience in working on Medical Boards, recently serving as Director of the Canadian equivalent to NaNETs - CNETs. As I wind down my surgical practice, I will have more time to devote my energy and expertise to this organization.

Thank you for your consideration of my application.”

J. Bart Rose, MD, MAS, FACS
Surgical Oncology
University of Alabama, Birmingham
Bio
Candidate Statement

“I would like to continue to expand my involvement in the NANETS organization and influence its future direction and growth. Especially I would like to see more involvement from the surgical community and expand membership to other subspecialities treating these diseases (e.g. advanced endoscopy).”

Ramriez

Robert Ramirez, DO, FACP
Medical Oncology-(Thoracic)
Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Bio
Candidate Statement

“I’m a thoracic oncologist at Vanderbilt and have been involved in the treatment of NETs since 2012. I have been privileged to serve on several committees within NANETS and have seen the organization grow and change.
It has been enjoyable being part of these changes which have impacted how we manage our patients and how we educate professionals. NANETS has also provided opportunities for mentorship, research collaboration and camaraderie and I’m happy to volunteer to serve.

I’ve enjoyed my time on the Board of Directors and am seeking a second term. Given my past experience in a large community practice and now in an academic setting I feel that I have the background necessary to garner excitement in the NANETS mission from a broad perspective. Coming from a thoracic background also offers a different viewpoint and hope to continue to bring NET education to our thoracic colleagues. I appreciate your consideration.”

 Gangi

Alexandra Gangi, MD
Surgical Oncology
Cedars Sinai Medical Center
Bio
Candidate Statement

“I am a surgical oncologist with a focus in GI and neuroendocrine cancers. Throughout my career, I have been privileged to treat NET patients and work with NET colleagues.
NANETs has consistently provided me with a strong academic foundation and an opportunity to engage with NET Cancer experts in my early career. Given my involvement in NANETs, I feel strongly that NANETs not only guides clinical care, but also shapes the training and education of NET specialists at all stages. Additionally, as a female surgical oncologist, I recognize and have seen the active efforts of NANETs to improve engagement and maintain inclusivity across specialties and would like to participate in the governance of the NANETs to enhance cross disciplinary engagement and support its mission to improve NET care by exchange of knowledge and innovation. I am honored to be considered for this position and hope to be an asset to the board if elected.”

Daneng Li, MD
Medical Oncology
City of Hope
Bio
Candidate Statement

“Serving on the NANETs Board of Directors will give me the opportunity to continue my journey to help revolutionize the care of patients with NETs.
My research in NETs through both developmental therapeutics and comprehensive patient assessments has allowed me to better understand and identify potential gaps in the NET field, both from the patient and provider perspectives.

Therefore, the opportunity to serve on the NANETs Board of Directors will give me the opportunity to formulate plans to address these gaps on a national level with the support of our membership. Such initiatives would include increased support for high risk-high reward disruptive science that has the potential to change practice and an incorporation of both the patient and provider voice in the clinical trial development process. By doing so, I hope to contribute to changing the standard of care in the field of NETs for years to come.”

Julie Hallet, MD, M.Sc, FRCSC
Surgical Oncology
Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
Bio
Candidate Statement

“I am a surgical oncologist and researcher at the University of Toronto, with a practice dedicated to HPB malignancies and NETs as part of the largest Canadian NETs clinic. I am eager to serve on the NANETS Board of Directors, drawing from my 10 years of experience in the NETs field.
I have a strong track-record of supporting the NETs communities locally, nationally, and internationally. I have contributed to multiple NANETS events, and engaged on the research, continued education, guidelines, and nominating committees. I am committed to supporting NANETS continued growth as an organization. I believe that this is best achieved by promoting inclusivity and ensuring contributions by individuals from diverse backgrounds, expanding our North-American reach, and fostering and developing interests and skills in NETs. If elected, I will actively work with everyone to advance our society, increase awareness for NETs and their care, and develop future NETs leaders. ”
